Funding for science

I support funding basic research - without a requirement for short-term payoffs, and without wasting researcher's times on competing for grants in a 0-sum game.

Scientific literacy

I support encouraging scientific literacy from a young age. A scientifically-literate person is better-equipped to make informed decisions, and separate valid from invalid claims.

Citizens equipped with a sensitive, accurate BS-detection kit is a robust defense against authoritarianism.

A role model, as we were

We will regain our status as a role model for scientific research; attracting top talent from around the world, and nurturing science in our children.

Research reform

I will submit legislation requiring every government grant to require that the research it supports can’t be published in a for-profit journal. And bans "open-access" fees. The academic community is unable to break free from them due to a collective action problem; we need government action.

For-profit acadmeic journals are predatory institutions extract profit by being a middle-man in Federally-funded research. They weakens science, impedes research, wastes Federal funding. Fund research: Not greedy middlemen who provide no value.

American universities pay more than $2 Billion a year on journal subscriptions. In 2023, the US government paid $380 million on article processing charges.

Ban article-processing charges. Invalidate copyrights owned by academic journals. Ban paywalls on articles which use federally-funded research.

Many American scientists rely on pirating articles. This is embarrasing.

Science advancement should be for us all: Rent-seeking on federally-funded research is unacceptable. Banish this parasitic business model. The Trump administration cut funding for science. The reforms I will fight for will save more taxpayer money than these cuts, while improving science instead of damaging it.
